Stony Brook Independent - The Stony Brook Independent is an upstart online news publication serving the students of Stony Brook University in Stony Brook, New York. Established in 2005 by founding members and Stony Brook undergraduate students Michael Nevradakis, Jeff Licitra and John Mascher, the publication was originally sponsored by the campus chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ), but since Fall 2005, has existed as a separately recognized student media organization at Stony Brook University.
